Dun Lughaidh host open day
ST Louis Secondary School held its annual open day recently
Fifty staff and 100 students spent the afternoon showing off the newly renovated buildings and just what St Louis has to offer to students and their families.
Principal Michelle Dolan and Deputy Principal Mary Gilmore were delighted with the turnout.
It has been an incredibly busy term for us here at St Louis. We managed to stay open last May despite the fire and underwent an enormous renovation over the summer holidays. It was really lovely to be able to show families all of the new rooms and the extensive improve- ments made to our campus, which will enable us to continue to offer innovative learning to our girls,’ said Michelle.
Visitors were greeted by beautiful traditional music in the foyer while upstairs the St Louis Strings and the St Louis Instrumental Group played as they visited the new general purpose space on the top corridor.
In the Home Economics Rooms they decorated and enjoyed freshly baked cookies, they created circuits with their bodies and saw experiments in the Science labs, they made bookmarks and clay decorations in the Art Rooms and watched the 3D printer and other exciting tools in the Technology Suite create all sorts of items.
The girls also had the opportunity to work on the Chrome books at the Business stand, try to find artefacts with the History Dept, play Sudoku with some Maths students, and fill in worksheets in Irish, Religion and Spanish.
Visitors to the school also got to try out the ukuleles and guitars and other instruments in the music room.
The highlight of the tour for many was the new outdoor space, an impressive new courtyard, created when the old concert hwall was destroyed in the blaze earlier in the year.
