Local artists create unique globes for GOAL project

GLOBES created by three Louth artists for GOAL’s What on Earth Project? are going on display in the Titanic Centre, Belfast from next Tuesday, November 6.

Adrienne Finnerty, Fergal Kilkenny and Petra Berntsson are among a hundred artists from around the country who were given blank resin globes and tasked with creating artworks to be auctioned for the aid relief charity.

Adrienne, who divides her time between Blackrock and Spiddeal, Galway, didn’t have to think twice about getting involved in the project as she has travelled to Africa and India doing aid work with her mother Theresa Mulholland. Her globe created using collage and paint is provides a social commentary on Irish and world affairs.

Fergal, who is currently doing a Masters Degree at Limerick School of Art and Design, says his background in graphic design has instilled in him a belief that art should always have a purpose. He used paint and hand carved calligraphy for his globe which has ‘ togetherness’ and ‘ hope’ as its theme.

Her ‘Flotilla of Impossible Dreams’ depicts courage, fearlessness, determination and the belief that global change begins right at our feet, according to Swedish artist Petra who has made her home on the Cooley peninsula.

The globes can be seen at the Titanic Centre Belfast from November 6 to 11.
