CUP FANS TRAVEL IN MASS TO AVIVA STA­DIUM

FANS and well-wish­ers de­scended on Dun­dalk Mar­ket Square on Mon­day evening for the home­com­ing of dou­ble-win­ners Dun­dalk FC.

The spe­cial event was hosted by Dun­dalk Mu­nic­i­pal Dis­trict to mark the club’s sport­ing achieve­ments this year in win­ning the Air­tric­ity Premier Di­vi­sion ti­tle, and the Ir­ish Daily Mail FAI Cup.

Dun­dalk FC se­cured the Air­tric­ity premier di­vi­sion ti­tle last month, their fourth in five years, with a record-break­ing points tally of 87. The Li­ly­whites faced league run­ners-up Cork City in the Ir­ish Daily Mail FAI Cup Fi­nal in the Aviva Sta­dium on Sun­day af­ter­noon and came out as 2-1 win­ners, wrap­ping up the dou­ble.

Thou­sands trav­elled from Dun­dalk and much fur­ther afield to see Pa­trick McEleney score the win­ning score to clinch Dun­dalk’s 11th FAI Cup suc­cess.

Speak­ing at the home­com­ing, Cathaoir­leach of Dun­dalk Mu­nic­i­pal Dis­trict, Coun­cil­lor Conor Kee­lan, said: ‘Dun­dalk FC have had re­mark­able suc­cess and have brought great joy to their fans this year. On be­half of Dun­dalk Mu­nic­i­pal Dis­trict, I’m de­lighted to have the team, and man­ager Stephen Kenny, here to­gether with their sup­port­ers for this spe­cial event to cel­e­brate and re­flect on a fan­tas­tic sea­son.’

Com­ment­ing, chair­man of Dun­dalk FC, Mike Treacy said: ‘ To­day’s event is a fit­ting end to a phe­nom­e­nal dou­ble-win­ning sea­son for Dun­dalk FC. We’re thrilled to be able to share our suc­cesses with our fans. Their sup­port this year has been ab­so­lutely in­cred­i­ble, as it al­ways is. The con­tin­ued growth and dom­i­nance of Dun­dalk FC un­der strong lead­er­ship shows the high stan­dards this club sets for it­self. We look for­ward to a pros­per­ous 2019 for the team’.
