Marist students celebrate Maths and English weeks

-

THE fun was put into learning at St Mary’s College recently as students took part in a host of activities including games and trips for English Week and Maths Week,

Highlights for English week included trips to An Tain Arts Centre for first year students and to Macbeth in Dublin for the sixth years.

The week also saw the launch of the school’s lunchtime Reading Room, a place for students to relax and enjoy their favourite book in the quiet surrounds of the school library. A whole-school edition of popular television show ‘Catchphrase’ was positioned around the school daily, so students could partake during and after school to ‘say what they saw’ and enter their answers at the end of the week. Dr. Ronan Lynch gave the Transition Years an intensive short-story writing clinic,

The Marist’s sister schools, Catholic University School (C.U.S), Leeson Street, and Chanel College, Coolock, paid the college a visit to partake in the annual inter-school public speaking debate. The standard was exceptionally high from all participants, but finished with Noah Aigbodion (TY) placing second in his category, and Beth McMahon (second year) placing third in hers.

National Maths Week also kept students and teachers very active with well attended lunch time activities, fun events in class, Maths Club, and a treasure hunt, culminating with all classes having a Stop and Sudoko challenge.
