Think before you flush
Local schools and especially young pupils are being encouraged to be careful of what they put down the toilet with studies showing waters becoming polluted by household items.
A recent study pointed out the harm posed by the like of plastic and micro plastics on water quality in Dundalk Bay, and news reports have highlighted the problem of items which have been picked up along our coasts.
An initiative has been launched “Think before you Flush” with Clean Coast trying to raise awareness with young people and to advise how they and their families can help their environment and especially the seas.
The organisation is going into schools, and the three local primary schools are among those to be visited.
A ‘Dirty Dozen’ list has been identified which pupils will be told about and urged should never be put into a toilet and flushed.
