Toheeb ‘rocks the Hoops to make a point for Glenmuir

GLENMUIR UNITED SHAMROCKS 1 1

TOHEEB Agunbiade salvaged a draw for Glenmuir that they scarcely deserved in this meeting between two teams in mid table in the under-15 premier division.

The home player’s sweet strike flew low from outside the 18 yard inside the near post beating the full length dive of the Shamrocks goalkeeper to tie up the scoring four minutes from time in what was really Glenmuir’s only shot on target in the entire match.

The play had an end of season air about it with little at stake. The play was flat with Glenmuir especially struggling for cohesion in the first-half. Shamrocks did the bulk of the attacking but the best they could contrive was a string of corners which never really troubled goalkeeper Nathan Keenan.

His brave cutting out of a cross by John Hodgers was the most troublesome situation he had to deal with in the half, while a thrusting run down the inside right channel by Hodgers was as close as Shamrocks came to breaking the deadlock when he shot narrowly over the crossbar.

However, Keenan in the final analysis was largely responsible for the hosts earning a draw with a magnificent flying acrobatic save from Sean Moran, one of a crucial number than he made. He clawed away the latter’s header which was bound for the top corner of the net in the first minute of a more lively second half.

Hodgers supplied the cross as he grew more menacing and went so agonisingly close to scoring as he carved through the Glenmuir defence with a great burst of pace from half way and went past Keenan inside the penalty area only for Vincent Adejobi to clear off his line.

Glenmuir managed to force a couple of corners in a row, but then James O’Connor drew another great save from Keenan with a shot from 30 yards. The Shamrocks striker started to drop back and find space to run at the Glenmuir defence and cause real danger which yielded the lead for his side.

He should have secured it himself with a knifing run through the middle leaving him with only Keenan to beat but he pushed his shot wide.

However, a couple of minutes later mid way through the half he made another thrusting run and slipped the ball into Alex Tegelua but it ran to Hodgers and he shot low into the far corner of the net.

Glenmuir’s first real shot was from a free kick outside the box that Yadah Usoh sent low just wide of the post as they came more into the game.

Shamrocks goalkeeper Brown was grateful when a looping shot by Lamar Okonkwo fell into his hands before Agunbiade equalised.
