Surprise party for Gary’s 50th birthday

-

ON Friday night I headed for the Marquee in Toales Bar where a special surprise 50th birthday party was being held for Gary Byrne from Bay Estate and there to make sure he had an excellent night was his wife Maria and daughter Sophie, mum Kitty Corcoran from Clonmel and a huge collection of family and friends.

I was only in the door when I met up with Gary’s wife Maria who wanted a special mention for kids Saoirse and Shea who were a bit young to be at the party. She tricked Gary by telling him that they were going out for a nice quiet night together, he had no idea the party was waiting for him and she said that everything went wrong in the run up, the babysitter arrived early as did their taxi, but when they got there, there was a huge crowd waiting for the birthday boy.

I then decided to have a look round to see who was up for making it a massive night and first caught up with Ann and Stephen Toal from Mulholland Avenue who told me they have been friends of Gary’s for years and wanted to wish him a very happy 50th.

Making my way over to another table I then got talking to some of Gary’s oldest mates and they were Stephen Maguire from Carlingford, Paddy Lawless from Bay Estate and Aidan Lennon from Greenwood Drive who were on hand to makes sure it was going to be anything but a quiet celebration.

The lads were sitting having a laugh with Jennifer Lawless from Bay Estate, Susan Maguire from Carlingford and Blanche Kirk from Belfry Avenue who wanted to wish Gary all the best on his big night.

Making my way over to anther table I then got talking to Gary’s aunt Peggy Maher from Gortnahoe Tipperary (Shane Long country) who was sitting chatting to Gary’s daughter Sophie Byrne and his mum Kitty Corcoran from Clonmel who were up for making the best of the party with Marie and Heinz Kampes from Bay Estate and Pat Stewart from Rock Road who were all in great form and looking forward to a lovely night with the birthday boy.

Not too long later I got a swift work with workmates Paddy Woods from Holly Park and Richie McGrath from Lennonstown Manor who worked with him in Flexi Tech and Elite Form and Richie made a couple a of remarks about Gary that certainly wouldn’t be suitable in these pages!

Meanwhile up near the bar I met up with Shane O’Neill from Dromintee who was with Seana and Joe Daly from Silverbridge who said that Gary used to ‘show up’ for work with Jonesboro Glass and they certainly weren’t going to miss this party.

I then got a word with David McGrath from Seafield Lawns who was with Jason Lambe and girlfriend Rachel Tasker both from Kilkerley. The lads told me they work with Gary and were getting a bit sick of his old jokes, but were putting that aside to celebrate with the big man.

Finally, before I departed, I met up with one of Gary’s bestest mates Paudie Martin from Bay Estate who told me it was going to be an epic night, but the real reason he was there was because Gary owes him €50!
