TAX PAYER PICKS UP TAG

Time runs out to find buyer for ill-fated Authentic Food Company

- By MARGARET RODDY

TIME has run out for workers at the ill-fated Authentic Food Company (TAFC) as no buyer has emerged for the frozen food company.

The 169 workers at the factory on the Finnabair Estate learned yesterday (Monday) that the plant was not saleable as a going concern and that they must now proceed with applying for their redundancy payments.

Liquidators were appointed to the UK frozen ready meals producers last month after the company stated that they had no choice but to close the plant which they claimed was unprofitable.

Brendan Ogle, of UNITE trade union, said that once again the tax payer was being left to pick up the tag. He said workers hadn’t been offered anything by the company but would be entitled to statutory redundancy as well as payments for the consultation period and statutory notice period.
