Fintan Goss scholarship

Funds raised for Dundalk Counselling Centre by the Goss and Toner families though the recnet

Fintan Goss Perpetual Cup’ will be used to set up a scholarship to help train a professional play therapist.

A spokesperson for the centre said that they are ‘overwhelmed’ by the support they have received by the families who raised €15,309.80.

The directors and centre manager Elizabeth McGuckian felt that the money should be used in a way that would be a fitting memorial to Fintan.

‘ Together with his family it has been agreed to provide a scholarship fund in memory of Fintan; this scholarship would provide part funding towards a suitably qualified applicant to go forward to specialise in play therapy,’ said the spokesperson,.

Play therapy is an integral part of the service provided at the centre. Over the past year the service has been inundated with referrals for young children (from 4 years to under 13 years) to attend the centre for play therapy.

‘It is our hope that in hosting the Scholarship fund we would support a therapist going forward in study with a clinical placement and some financial support towards the cost of the training. In doing so, the person would become a Professional Play Therapist.’ Applications will be welcomed from suitably qualified people and further information is available from Centre Manager on 042 9338333 or send your enquiries to info@dundalkcounsellingcentre.ie
