From Dundalk Grammar School with love

-

THIS Christmas, elderly people in Belerus will get a gift which they might not otherwise receive thanks to the generosity of staff and students at Dundalk Grammar School who have put together Babushka Boxes.

The boxes are giving to elderly people whose farms were destroyed by the nuclear disaster in neighbouring Chernobyl. Their families have moved away to find work, leaving them behind with little money or no one to car for them.

The brightly wrapped shoe boxes, which are given to elderly ladies (Babushkas) and gents (Dedushkas), were collected from the school recently by Dee Marron Boyle, a volunteer with Chernobyl charities.

They will be distributed to the elderly people at Christmas, bringing joy as the boxes are a reminder that they have not been forgotten about. Each boxes contains a selection of small gifts such as soap, toiletries, combs, nail scissors, socks, hats, gloves and scarves, which would be regarded as a luxury by these people who have so little.
