DRIVERPAIDFOR DAMAGE

-

A 19-year-old man accused of causing damage to other vehicles after stones were thrown from his car, has had the charges struck out.

Judge Coughlan made that order after Robert McGuinness, 3 Captain’s Road, Forkhill, Co. Armagh paid €840 compensation.

He was charged with damaging the windscreen and bonnet of a car at Rossmakea; the windscreen and bonnet of another vehicle at Readypenny and the bonnet of a third vehicle at Cortial, Kilkerley, all on 9 June, 2017.

The defendant was also accused of two counts of intentionally throwing a dangerous obstruction in the direction of traffic at Dungooley, Kilcurry on the same occasion.

McGuinness’s solicitor Conor MacGuill said at a previous hearing there were three others in the car.

Last week, Mr MacGuill said his client accepts responsibility in a civil sense, but is not offering a plea of guilty in a criminal sense.

His friends were in the car and he was accepting responsibility and has met the compensation.

There are no previous convictions. Judge Coughlan struck out the charges.
