Knockbridge hurlers complete u- 14 double

NOVEMBER 1988

-

KNOCKBRIDGE hurlers add to their string of successes by completing an U-14 double when they beat Avenue Road 1-3 to 0-2 in Haggardstown to win the T&C Trophy for the first time.

The winners dominate from the start with midfielders Darren Martin and Paul Dunne gaining the upper hand over Avenue Road pairing, David Boland and Michael Crawley.

However, great defensive work by the Dundalk team’s full-back Willie Piper and ‘ keeper Ronan Duffy means the first half ends scoreless.

At the other end the Knockbridge defence is also solid, led by full-back Damien Byrne. Indeed, the side only concedes two points in each of the league and championship finals.

For the second half, David Dunne switches to partner his brother Paul at midfield, with Darren Martin taking David’s place on the square.

This pays immediate dividends when Darren crashes home a great goal. He ends up with another two points, while Paul Dunne converts a ‘65’.

The trophy is presented by Dundalk Juvenile Hurling Board P.R.O., Maurice Murphy, who praises the work of Damien Callan and Gerry Callan in bringing the game to such a high level in both areas.

He compliments the teams on a great game. Knockbridge: E. McArdle; E. Quigley, D. Byrne (cpt), R. Daly; E. Martin, R. McNally, F.McArdle; P. Dunne (0-1), D. Martin (1-2); H. Kirk, A. Carolan, M.
