Arson attack on Mullaharlin Park house
GARDAI are investigating an arson attack on a house at Mullaharlin Park on Sunday morning. Dundalk Fire Service were called to the scene around 5am and the occupants of the house escaped without injury. Substantial damage was caused to the downstairs of the house with smoke damage throughout the property. A suspect was arrested and questioned in relation to the fire and a file is being prepared for the DPP.
The window of a house off the Castletown Road was smashed when a brick was thrown throw the glass around 1.30am on Monday November 26.
Gardai are also investigating a number of burglaries over the past week. A householder at the Castletown Road got a shock when he returned home from work last Tuesday November 27 and discovered that the front door had been forced open, the house ransacked and a number of items stolen. The same evening, between 7pm and 11pm, a house in a nearby estate off the Castle- town Road was broken into but nothing was stolen. A lawnmower was stolen from a shed at a house at Annavacky, Hackballscross between 8am and 8pm on Wednesday November 28. There was also a break in to a house on the Carrick Road between 8.30am and 12.15pm on Wednesday but nothing was taken.
A handbag was stolen during a break-in to a house in the Barrack Street area between 8pm and 8.20pm on Friday November 30. Gardai are seeking information about a male, of large build and dark hair who appeared to have an eye injury and a 04 Toyota Avensis which may been connected.
Gardai are warning cyclists to make sure they lock their bikes properly after a number of bikes were stolen from the town centre in recent weeks.
