Further Hazelwood Avenue closure to irk residents

- BY OLIVIA RYAN

Bay Estate residents are set to face further disruption over the next month, with plans by Louth County Council to close another section of the estate.

The local authority confirmed plans to close off a separate part of Hazelwood Avenue in Bay Estate for a further five weeks.

Part of the road from its junction with the N52 Coes Road to the junction of Elm Grove has been closed since mid-September to facilitate the upgrading of the existing sewer network in the estate.

This is due to reopen after 10 weeks on Friday December 21st.

But local people were faced with the prospect of further disruption after Christmas, after it was proposed to close the road from the junction of Cherryvale to the junction of Pinewood Grove from 8am on Monday January 7th to 4.30pm on Friday February 15th.

When this closure takes place diversions will be via the N52 Coes Road southbound, left onto R172 Avenue Road continuing east to roundabout, taking first left onto Red Barns Road, left again onto Cypress Gardens and right onto Hazelwood Avenue.

The local authority are currently inviting submissions and/or objections on the proposed closure.

Any person who wishes to object to the closure should lodge their objection in writing in an envelope marked ‘Road Closure objection’ to Mr Mark Johnston, Senior Engineer, Operations, Louth County Council, St Alphonsus Road, Dundalk, Co Louth, not later than 12 noon on Tuesday December 4th.
