Ravensdale collect the points at Carlingford

-

RAVENSDALE travelled to Carlingford on Sunday last for their first meeting of the season with Carlingford Celtic in the North Louth Winter League.

Carlingford started the brighter and were rewarded with a fine goal from Oliver McGuinness.

Ravensdale soon altered their formation to combat Celtic’s early dominance and this stemmed the tide.

Parity soon followed after a terrific free kick from Damian Connor was delicately flicked in off Mattie Myles’ head.

Ravensdale started to get the upper hand but it was Carlingford’s Richie Magee who got the next goal to give Carlingford a 2-1 lead at half time.

Carlingford again started the brighter in the second half and were unfortunate not to go further ahead when only the width of the cross bar saved Ravensdale.

The major turning point came after an hour when Celtic’s influential Patrick Sheelan was red carded for a mis-timed tackle.

Soon after Ravensdale were level when Declan Sharkey rounded the keeper to convert Paddy McKenna’s pass.

With 15 minutes remaining Ravensdale took the lead with Michael Crilly finishing from fifteen yards out.

Carlingford were reduced to nine men when Paddy Farrell was sent off and they threw caution to the wind for the remainder of the game leaving spaces for Ravensdale breakaways but both defences won out.

Best for Carlingford were Patrick Sheelan and David Reilly. For Ravensdale Ross Dullaghan, Ciaran McGlynn, and Mattie Myles played well.
