Man struck on back of head in assault
GARDAI APPEAL FOR INFORMATION AFTER REPORTED ASSAULT IN SALTOWN
GARDAI are appealing for witnesses after a man reported an assault in the Saltown estate just before the end of 2018.
The man was said to have been walking along the street at the estate when he was struck on the head from behind at around 3.30a.m on December 29th.
The alarm was raised, and he was transferred by ambulance to hospital.
Gardai at Dundalk have appealed to anyone who might have been in the area at the time, and witnessed anyone acting suspiciously to make contact on 042 93 88400.
Meanwhile a taxi driver was assaulted after he dropped off a passenger at Riverstown, Cooley last weekend.
The driver, reported to have been a man in his 60’s, was behind the wheel of a taxi bus when he took a fare to Riverstown at around 4a.m on Sunday morning.
The passenger is believed to have refused to pay the fare, and then damaged a window in the sliding door.
He also assaulted the driver with a number of blows to the head.
Gardai confirmed the driver was not seriously injured, and did not seek hospital treatment.
Anyone who has any information on the incident is also asked to contact gardai at Dundalk on 02 93 88400.
Gardai also investigated reports that a car was possibly using blue lights in pursuit of other vehicles in the Carlingford area last weekend.
Cooley Community Alert had issued warnings about the car on its Facebook page, after concerns arose that the occupants may have been attempting to make the vehicle look like a garda car.
A garda spokesman told the Argus that it was unclear if this was the case.
Meanwhile, a break in to a shed in Blackrock saw three bicycles and a power washer stolen on Friday last.
And in a separate incident, the driver of a car parked at Rampart Lane returned to find it had been scored by a key on Thursday last.
