No expiry on Shop Local vouchers

-

DUNDALK’S Shop Local vouchers have no expiry date which puts them ahead of the Government’s proposal that gift vouchers are valid for five years.

That’s according to Dundalk Chamber of Commerce Pro Paddy Malone, who points out that since thier introduction, the Shop Local vouchers, have ‘always put the consumer first.

He has welcomed the news that consumer legislation in respect of vouchers is on the way which will mean that vouchers have to be honoured for five years.

The Shop Local scheme was introduced by Dundalk Chamber of Commerce, with support from The Argus, an he said: ‘ The Chamber would like to thank the employers of Dundalk, consumers, retailers and employees for making this such a huge success.’

‘Since its launch, over €2million has been kept in the town and when this is re-spent it means that up on €5million, has stayed local.’

‘In 2018 the figure directly sold was €685,000 over Christmas, bringing the total for the year to €785,000, which means over €1,800,000 of business for the town and related jobs, not all in retail.’
