Found begging on street

A 41-year-old man who refused to stop begging in the town centre when ordered so to do by a garda, has received the benefit of the probation act.

Porumpel Vohinger, with an address given as Park Street, but who travelled up from Cork to meet the case, according to his solicitor, pleaded guilty to the offence which occurred in Clanbrassi­l Street on 15 December, 2017.

He was charged with failing to comply with the direction of a garda having been found begging without a licence by a garda who suspected that he was harassing, intimidati­ng and obstructin­g members of the public.

The defendant got legal aid.
