Evelyn retires from Iarnród Éireann after 43 years
IT was a very special New Years Eve for local woman Evelyn Fitzsimons when she retired from Iarnrod Eireann after 43 years of dedicated service.
Evelyn, from the Ardee Road, first began working at Dundalk Station in the mid 1970s when she took up a post on the switchboard under the former Station master Stephen McGivern.
In more recent years she was transferred to the booking office, from where she retired as Chief Clerk.
Evelyn was delighted to be joined by family, friends, co-workers and current members of staff for a celebration as she clocked off for the final time after 43 years at Clarke Station.
She was especially thrilled to be joined by her children and grand-children, including her daughter who had travelled home from France for Christmas.
