THE number of people who have signed up for Seniors Alert Scheme in Co Louth has increased by 32% according to the most recent figures, Fine Gael TD, Fergus O’Dowd

Figures to end of October show that 943 people in Louth were registered, up 231 from to 712 at the same stage of 2017.

Deputy O’Dowd said: ‘ The Senior Alerts Scheme supports vulnerable older people in our communities by providing them with a free monitored alarm which they wear on their person and which they can activate if they need assistance. This community led scheme enables people over 65 to live securely in their homes with confidence, independence and peace of mind.

“I am delighted to see that the number of people participating in this scheme locally has increased so much. It is clear evidence that older people are feeling the benefits of the scheme. He urged more people to avail of the scheme and called on those with older relatives or neighbours to alert them to the scheme and, if necessary, to help them sign up.
