Lightning Liam takes time trial honours

-

DUNDALK’S Cuchulainn Cycling Club closed out 2018 with the annual New Year’s Eve Time Trial.

The route was 14.1km out and back from Dorian’s Pub to Ardee. This route has been in use for the last four editions and the riders greatly appreciated the resurfacing work that had been carried out on about 75% of the course.

First down the start ramp was Ardee Cycling Club’s Cathal McCabe, who was also the youngest participant in the event.

He was followed by Rhiannon Dolan, another under 12 cyclist and both delivered outstanding performances.

In total close to 40 cyclists signed on for the event with both Carrickmacross and Cavan Racing members featuring heavily on the start list.

The quickest time on the day was set by Cuhculiann’s Liam Dolan, a two-time winner of the event in the past. Liam set a time of 18:39, 57 seconds quicker than Ronan Grimes from Dublin’s Orwell Wheelers.

The podium was completed by Ardee Cycling Club’s Tomas McCabe, who returned in 20:08.

First Lady home was Claire Ludlow, who is also a member of the very strong Ardee Cycling Club.

Afterwards the cyclists retired to Byrne’s Pub in Castlebellingham for the prize-giving.
