Louth Acts for Tradfest 2019
ZOË Conway and John McIntyre will take to the stage for TradFest performing in Dublin’s Rathfarnham Castle on Saturday January 26 at 4pm. But they are not the only Louth musicians on this year’s festival line up as Kern featuring Brendan McCreanor from Dunleer, Barry Kieran from Dundalk and SJ McArdle from Drogheda, will also perform in The Workman’s Club as part of TradFest 2019.
TradFest, billed as Ireland’s largest festival of trad, folk and world music, runs from January 23 to 27 with a wealth of talent to showcase in some of the most iconic and atmospheric buildings in the city.
With an exciting blend of eclectic fiddle and guitar music, Zoë Conway and John McIntyre bring to the stage unique arrangements of traditional Irish music, compositions and songs, old and new. They have released two recordings to date – the newest release is a superb collection of live European performances, ‘Live in Concert’, released in spring 2017. Their mesmerising musical interaction on-stage really needs to be experienced to be believed. They are without doubt one of the finest folk duos playing today.
Winners of last year’s TradFest Temple Bar Showcase, Louth contemporary folk favourites Kern are fresh from high-profile appearances at Fleadh Ceoil na hÉireann and Fleadh TV and a US trip to play shows at the enormous Milwaukee Irish Fest. The band’s live set includes tracks from their album, the critically-acclaimed False Deceiver, which was produced by Trevor Hutchinson (Lúnasa, The Waterboys) and has received widespread radio and press. The band comprises champion fiddler Barry Kieran, uilleann-piper Brendan McCreanor and singer/songwriter SJ McArdle, all three men wellknown in their respective fields. 5
