- By OLIVIA RYAN

INVESTIGATIONS are ongoing following a suspected petrol bombing attack in Muirhevnamor over the weekend.

Gardai confirmed reports of criminal damage at a garage behind a house following an incident which took place just before 9pm on Friday night last at a property just off Tom Bellew Avenue.

Damage to the roof was reported in the incident.

It is not yet confirmed if any substance was used in the attack, but investigations are ongoing.

Meanwhile, gardai say they are making progress in the investigation of a suspected attack on a man off Hoey’s Lane on Monday night last.

It was initially reported that a man in his 30s was targeted in an acid attack by a person known to him.

The victim was reported to have had a corrosive substance thrown at him, which caused injuries to his body and also burns to his clothing.

Gardai attended the scene, and an ambulance was called and he was later transferred to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda, where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.

Investigating gardaí are reported to have identified a person known to the victim as a suspect in the case, and gloves as well as a bottle were recovered near the scene.

Members of the Garda Technical Bureau also carried out a forensic examination of the scene.

Gardai also launched a number of enquiries after four burglaries were reported in the Avenue road and Inner Relief road area over the last week.

A small amount of money was stolen in one of the incidents, and the houses targetted had been ransacked in what gardai believe was the search for cash

A spokesman explained that the house had been broken into when the occupants were out. He also warned householders to be vigilant, ensuring that doors and windows are securely locked
