Louth Men’s Sheds get €10k funding boost

SIX Men’s Sheds projects across Louth are set for a funding boost after more than €10,000 was awarded under the Community Enhancemen­t Programme.

The projects across Louth will equally share a €10,146 grant, each receiving €1,691 allocation.

Welcoming the news, Louth TD Fergus O’Dowd said: ‘ This funding aims to enable individual Sheds to update their facilities by purchasing equipment or by carrying out minor works to improve their shed. The initiative was developed in associatio­n with the Irish Men’s Sheds Associatio­n.

O’Dowd added: ‘ The local men’s sheds offer a safe and inclusive environmen­t where men can share their life skills, engage socially and work on some very important local projects. The men’s sheds movement are also providing a wonderful health and wellbeing capacity that is acknowledg­ed and appreciate­d by all.’

At the Cooley Peninsula Men’s Shed the fund will be used for a new/upgrade of machinery and tools for members and replacemen­t of door for security; Dundalk - for the purchase of four laptops for training for current and new members; Dunleer - to purchase laptop and wood working tools/ machines; Mid-Louth; Purchase fitness equipment to encourage exercise among members; and in Tullyallen the money will help buy tools to provide training to members and laptop for IT training. In Drogheda they plan to purchase a laptop, accessorie­s and a printer.
