Man charged with mother’s murder in Ardee

32 - year- old Tomasz Krzysztof Piotrowski sat calmly in the dock of Drogheda District Court last Thursday morning as has he was charged with the murder of his 57-year-old mother Elzbieta Piotrowska.

The Polish man, with an address at Cherrybroo­k, Ardee, Co Louth, listened to the court proceeding­s through an interprete­r, as details of his arrest, charge and caution were outlined.

Dressed casually in a grey track suit top, and dark jogging pants, he was remanded in custody to Cloverhill Prison for a week.

Sgt James Comiskey told the court he charged Piotrowski on Wednesday night at 9.21pm in Drogheda Garda Station with the murder of his mother Elzbieta Piotrowska.

The married mother of two was found with catastroph­ic fatal injuries at the house in Clonmore, Ardee, on the morning of Tuesday, January 8.

Judge John Cheatle presided over the short hearing, where he was told the accused made no comment when the accusation was read to him.

The prosecutin­g garda made an applicatio­n for Piotrowski to be remanded in custody to appear at Clover Hill District Court via video link on January 17.

The Judge granted the adjournmen­t.

Solicitor for the defendant Paddy Goodwin said he had serious concerns about his client’s mental health and asked that he receive the appropriat­e medical attention while in custody.

He also asked that legal aid be granted as the accused is not working.
