Warm tributes paid to former Sinn Fein councillor Harry Todd

-

A minute’s silence was held in memory of the late Harry Todd who served as a Sinn Fein councillor for nine years at the monthly meeting of the Municipal District of Dundalk.

Chairman Cllr Conor Keelan proposed a vote of sympathy to Mr Todd’s family, recalling that he has served as a member of Dundalk Town Council from when he was co-opted in 2007 to its dissolution in 2016.

‘He was very vocal in regard to housing and was chairman of the housing municipal policy committee,’ he said.

Cllr Mark Deary extended sympathy to the Todd family and the Sinn Fein group in the chamber. He had worked with Harry on the Council for many years, describing him as ‘ the archetypical local councillor with the passion for his area in Coxes Demesne’. The turnout at the funeral was an indication of the affection in which he was held.

Harry had been ‘very warm and welcoming’ when she was co-opted onto the council, remembered Cllr Maria Doyle. ‘He cared very much for the community and people he represented and will be sadly missed.’

Cllr Ruairi O Murchu said that Harry had been ‘a true gent, wonderful union representative, and really good republican. As an elected representative he was dogged and direct. He will be missed by his family, Sinn Fein and in Oakland Park.’

A minute’s silence was held before the business of the meeting got underway.
