Council to appeal funding decision
BRIDGE Street ‘fits all the boxes’ needed for funding under the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund, Director of Service, Mr Frank Pentony stated at last week’s meeting of the Municipal District of Dundalk.
He told members that Louth County Council is lodging an appeal in the hope of getting funding for the regeneration of Bridge Street and the St Nicholas Quarter.
While their application for funding for the area under the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund hadn’t been successful, they had got feedback from the department and were working on the appeal process.
‘We have a team working on the appeal at the minute,’ he said, explaining that the appeal would be signed off on last Thursday as it had to be with the Department the following day.
While the local authority had been successful in getting funding for the Long Walk in Dundalk and Westgate in Drogheda, the applications for Bridge Street and the Northern Cross Route in Drogheda weren’t approved.
He noted that other towns had been mentioned in the National Development Plan as ‘regional drivers’ yet the only centre with that classification to get funding was Sligo.
‘ The application for Bridge Street ticks all the boxes’, continued Mr Pentony, saying that he couldn’t think of another street in Dundalk which fits the bill so well.
