Faughart Rovers on top at Ravensdale

IN a mid table battle in Ravensdale on Sunday morning last, Faughart Rovers took on a Bridgeside team in great form of late in the North Louth Winter League.

In a fierce start to the game both teams battled hard not to concede. However Bridgeside took the lead when an Andy Gray cross was parried by the Faughart ‘ keeper who injured himself in the process.The ball fell to Cody McGill at the edge of the box who found the top corner of the net. The Faughart equaliser came after a cross from Vinny Downey was met by Dan O’Connell who turned neatly and buried the ball past the keeper. With half time nearing Faughart took the lead when a Tommy O’Hare free kick was turned into the goal by a Bridgeside defender under pressure from Robbie O’Hanlon.

The start of the second half was a balanced affair with both teams searching for the all important next goal. That goal came Faughart’s way when Robbie O’Hanlon’s cross from the right was met with a majestic header from Aidan McCabe which rat- tled the back of the net. Faughart made it 4-1 and sealed the three points with 15 minutes left on the clock when a great pass from Ronan Byrne set Robbie O’Hanlon free to coolly slot past the out-rushing goalkeeper.

Best for Faughart were Mark Keenan, Dan O’Connell, Robbie O’Hanlon, Ronan Byrne and Derek McCabe. Best for Bridgeside were Mickey Cross and Cody McGill.
