Lauryn returns from Scléip with silverware
SIXTH year Coláiste Lú student Lauryn Ní Riain has returned with All-Ireland silverware once again from Scléip.
Scléip is a contemporary music and creative arts competition run by Gael Linn every year for students from Gaelcholáistí and Aonaid LánGhaeilge from all over the country.
Lauryn gave what was described as ‘a powerhouse performance’ of Lady GaGa’s recent hit I’ll Never Love Again from the movie A Star is Born.
Her confident and mature rendition of this challenging song beat off stiff competition from other contenders including Coláiste na Coiribe, Gaelcholáiste Mhuire AG and Coláiste De hÍde, and she celebrated winning first place in the senior contemporary solo singing category at the national event.
Principal Tomas Sharkey praised the sixth year student for her success in the competition, saying: ‘Lauryn’s experience on stage stood to her at the final and support from fellow students in the crowd gave her an extra boost.’
The future is bright for Lau- ryn as outside school she has been gigging, songwriting and entering talent competitions over the last few years.
In 2017 she won second place in BEO! at Oireachtas na Samhna with her self-composed song Piléar.
In recent years she has also completed auditions for X Factor and Ireland’s Got Talent.
Lauryn’s performance is available to watch on Coláiste Lú’s YouTube channel and this incredible win now totals five the number of All-Ireland Scléip titles for Coláiste Lú’s Club Ceoil since the school opened six years ago.
