-

THE All Ireland Cross Country Relays and B-Championships took place in wet conditions at DKIT sports fields on Sunda.

Representing Dundalk St Gerards A.C. on the day were Doireann Conlon in the U11 girls 1000m, Leah Mooney in the U15 Girls 2500m and the girls U12

4 x 500m relay team of Meabh O’Connor, Grainne Moran, Tara O’Connor & Abaigh Moonan.

First into action was the effervescent Doireann in the girls U11 race where an excellent performance saw her finish in the top 12 medalists with a great 4th place. Leah was next

into action in the girls U15 race where once again she showed great improvement to take 2nd place and demonstrate she is coming into form as the season progresses.

The U12 relay team were next to go to the line in another strong contest. First up Meabh ran a

solid leg to leave the girls in 3rd. Another storming run from Grainne made up ground and left them right in contention.

Tara absolutely bounded round the course to hand a 10m lead to Abaigh who set about extending it out to 15m before the Ratoath athlete began to close

her down gradually coming into the last 50m.

Sensing her rival the wily Abaigh hugged the inside line and kept a bit up her sleeve to quicken again in the finishing straight to take a superb victory for the team.

The performances shown

by the clubs 6 athletes on the day were nothing short of brilliant. The events are coming thick and fast over the next few weeks with the Leinster indoor championships commencing next weekend with the Ras na hEireann taking place the next weekend.
