Zoe Murphy fund reaches target at ‘Foods’ cup event

- By OLIVIA RYAN

The Zoe Murphy Appeal reached its €100k target, thanks to the incredible donation of more than €20,000 from The Robert ‘Foods’ McLoughlin fundraiser held in Oriel Park.

Zoe’s parent’s Eamon and Lynda were delighted to accept the donation from Sid and Attracta McLoughlin, and friends of their late son Robert ‘Foods’.

‘We are so incredibly grateful for this donation,’ said Lynda, adding that it was the largest amount raised from a single event during the fundraising campaign for Zoe.

Friends of Robert, who was tragically killed in a road accident close to his Newry Road home in October 2017, hosted a hugely successful football tournament in his memory in December.

Four teams, comprising friends’ of Roberts from his school days, Dundalk FC, Dundalk Rugby Club and his work colleagues will be competing for the trophy named in his honour

Having been moved by the story of little Zoe Murphy, who has cerebral palsy, and is awaiting surgery in the US, they were delighted to present her family with over €20,000 at an event in Oriel Park last week.

‘ This has meant so much to us,’ added Lynda. ‘It has helped us to reach our target of €100,000 needed to get Zoe on the waiting list now for surgery.’

‘We really want to thank Robert’s family, and his friends for doing this for Zoe. The work they put into organising this event was fantastic.’

Along with the main football tournament, the organisers had also organised a raffle of football jerseys last month to ensure they reached the target for the Zoe Murphy Appeal.
