Murphy family give thanks as Zoe now awaiting surgery

-

Just six months after the Zoe Murphy Appeal was launched, an incredible €100,000 has been raised to help the Dundalk toddler get on the waiting list for life changing surgery in the US.

‘It’s hard to believe, we don’t know what to say,’ Zoe’s mum Lynda told the Argus.

‘Only last August we set up the Go Fund Me account, and had been talking to one lady who had been through something similar. She told us to give ourselves 18 months, and we thought OK, we will do our best.’

But, she added, the ‘incredible response from the people of Dundalk’ ensured little Zoe didn’t have to wait that long.

‘We want to thank absolutely everyone who donated or supported us in any way. It has really opened our eyes as to how good the people of this town are, we didn’t even have to ask, people just organised events themselves and donated the funds. Thank you to every single person who helped,’ said Lynda.

Zoe is now on a waiting list for surgery to help improve her condition, and her long term outcome.

‘ There is no cure for cerebral palsy, but the surgery will reduce pain by around 50%, and could even help her walk indoors.’

Lynda added that any funds which come in after the target has been reached will go towards the vital physiotherapy she will need for years after the surgery.
