Local schools for Junk Kouture semi-finals

- By MARGARET RODDY

STUDENTS from five local post primary schools have made it through to the eastern finals of Ireland’s biggest student fashion show, 2019 Bank of Ireland Junk Kouture.

The local semi-finalists were revealed last Thursday in Coláiste Chú Chulainn when coveted Silver Tickets were presented to them by Bank of Ireland Youth Coordinator Robert Cashman.

However, the lifeline vote for all those teams that missed out on the Regional Finals is open until Friday, with one winner from each region selected based on public vote.

Now in its 9th year, the competition has attracted 24,000 students on the island of Ireland, with young designers challenged to recycle or upcycle everyday junk materials to create works of wearable art.

Dundalk will be well represented in the Eastern Finals in the Helix on March 1.

Bush Post Primary entries ‘ This Is Me’ and ‘ Climatastrophy’ were selected along with ‘ Read All About It’ and ‘Expectations’ from Coláiste Chú Chulainn.

Colaiste Ris will be represented by ‘ Hear I Am, Can You Hear Me’ and ‘ Skin Deep’, while Dun Lughaidh entry ‘ The Bear Essentials’ is also through.

From St Vincent’s ‘ Time Travellers’ Wife’ and ‘ Blume’ also got silver tickets.
