Louis business awards
THE Business Department in St. Louis Secondary School recently celebrated the success of its students at Junior Cert Level.
Last week Business Teacher Joanne Hughes and TY student Julie Guinan attended a prestigious awards ceremony in Maynooth University to honour the academic achievement of Business students at Junior Cert Level.
Julie was one of five St Louis students who achieved an A at junior level in the subject.
‘It’s lovely to see recognition for the students from a Teachers Association’
Speaking after the event Joanne Hughes said: ‘ This is a lovely event that the Business Studies Teachers Association of Ireland hosts this every year.’
She explained: ‘ We can only bring one student to the event but we make sure to have a presentation in the school afterwards to celebrate the success of all the students who have done so well.’
Principal Michelle Dolan and Deputy Principal Mary Gilmore presented the other girls with their certificates in the school the next day.
Eva Harmon, Mollie Toner Esther Ibilola and Natasha Kearney were delighted to be part of the successful group.
Ms. Dolan added her praise for the students, and said she was thrilled with the recognition they had received for their hard work.
‘Our third years last year had exemplary results in every subject so it is lovely to see this acknowledgement from a Teachers’ Association.
‘We offer three subjects at Leaving Certificate level in Business – Accountancy, Business Studies and Economics and there is a high uptake of all three subjects every year.’
The awards are another string to the bow for the schools Business Studies department, with one of its members, teacher Róisín Mallon having written the highly successful new textbook for the New Junior Cycle Course, ‘Network’.
The book is now a vital part of the Junior Cycle programme for business students across the country.
