COLAISTE LU HOST TOP IRISH DEBATE TEAMS
Coláiste Chú Chulainn and Coláiste Lú were delighted to host ‘Abair’, the Irish public speaking competition last week.
Teachers and students from various secondary schools in Dundalk and Newry visited the school and enjoyed a day of informative and passionate speeches on a range of diverse topics.
Coláiste Lú sixth year student Ellen Ní Neachtáin secured a place in the final in March with an inspirational speech on feminism and the role of women in society.
Fifth year Coláiste Chú Chulainn students Emer Markey, Katerina Tugulea, and Cian Mc Guinness delivered confident speeches on Brexit, homelessness and the health system in Ireland.
Gael Linn judges, Seán Ó Maoilsté and Seán Mac Labhraí commented on the high standard of Irish and fluency among the students, and all students were presented with certificates.
Ellen Ní Neachtáin was presented with a trophy, and is looking forward to competing in the final next month.
Irish teachers Neasa Ní Chonluain and Treasa Ní Thomhnair said they were delighted with the students’ achievements and the positive contribution made by students to Gaeilge in both schools.
