Carlingfor­d to make return to Dundalk Junior League

CARLINGFOR­D, the current leaders of the North Louth League, are committed to returning to play in the re-structured Dundalk Junior League.

The Dundalk League Management Committee have been given the green light by the Leinster FAI to run an extended league season in this the Centenary of Junior Soccer in Dundalk from March to October, and Carlingfor­d will take part assuming the management committee press ahead with their plans.

Carlingfor­d have been absent from the league for quite a while, having enjoyed a halcyon period in the 70s when they were champions in successive seasons in 1975 and 1976, and topped that feat by completing the double in the latter season by winning the McConville Cup.

They have plied their trade in recent years in the North Louth League which affiliated to the Leinster Football Associatio­n a couple of years ago.

They have won the league and cup in the past two seasons, and went close to completing the double last season when beaten in the cup final.

With three games left before yesterday’s (Sunday) meeting with second place in the table Ravensdale they were leading the race to lift the title again.

They draw their players from the Cooley Peninsula, with players like Aoghan McGuinness, Declan McGuinness and Shane Marks with experience of playing in the North East League with Bellurgan.

They will be relying on the squad that has been competing in the North Louth to compete in the Dundalk League.
