Locals simply the best

LOCAL members of Team Torres Dundalk Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu club made the short trip down to Newry last week to compete in the prestigiou­s annual NI BJJ Open Championsh­ip where they played their part in helping the Team Torres National Team secure the coveted ‘Best Team’ Title for a second year in a row.

In the process they beat other leading academies in Ireland such as East Coast Jiu Jitsu, Gracie Barra and SBG.

The competitio­n say 277 athletes, male and female, compete from across the island of Ireland, with local fighters Dave Tiernan securing a silver medal in the MediumHeav­yweight category, Lee McInerney a bronze in the LightFeath­weight category, Andrew McGahon a bronze in the Lightweigh­t category and Chi Attoh taking double silver in both her own weight division and in the open weight division.

The team trains six days a weeks with classes for beginners of all ages, sizes and fitness levels.
