Des Bishop stacks supermarket shelves

FEBRUARY 2004

-

‘ THE Des Bishop Work Experience’ episode from Superquinn airs on Network 2.

The Irish/American comedian tries his hand stacking shelves and packing bags.

Fresh from his exploits as a minimum wage earner in Waterford’s Abrakebabra and the Aquadome in Tralee, the New York native says, ‘ The Dundalk Superquinn job is actually my best paid. In fact, I think it is the one I enjoy most.’

Of the show, he adds, ‘It is a novel idea to get out there and experience the reality of what it’s really like to work in minimum wage jobs.

‘From stacking shelves and working on tills, to packing bags and carrying out ‘ trolley duty’, the programme follows Des’s experience from his induction to trying to remember product codes.

‘In the other places I work at, the staff don’t want to be filmed or included in the show at all, but the Dundalk crew are great.’

Bishop lives in Castleross for the four weeks he is a full-time member of staff in Superquinn.
