STUDENT DISQUALIFIED FROM DRIVING

-

A 24-year-old DkIT student has been disqualified from driving for two years and fined €25 for driving without insurance.

The court heard he travelled at speed trying to get away from the guards.

Ibrahim Ridha, 82 New Muirhevna, Dublin Road, also pleaded guilty to one count of dangerous driving on the same occasion, a charge which was taken into account by the judge.

The defendant, who is from Saudi Arabia and studying civil engineering, was before the court for dangerous driving at Ardee Road and Stapleton Drive, and a further charge of driving without reasonable consideration at Stapleton Place.

However, the state accepted a plea to one of the dangerous driving charges.

He was also accused of having no insurance at Stapleton Drive and failing to produce insur- ance and a driving licence.

Inspector Declan Monaghan gave evidence that at 10.18pm on 3 February, 2018, Ridha drove a car at speed out of Tesco and onto Stapleton Drive.

He drove dangerously thereafter at speeds in excess of 140kph, failing to stop at a yield sign.

Solicitor Niall Breen said his client panicked when he heard the siren, and tried to escape.

A separate case involving Ibrahim Ridha has been adjourned for hearing to 10 April next.

He is accused of causing criminal damage to a front door at Aliz Restaurant, Park Street, on 28 December last.

Legal aid was granted subject to a statement of means being filed.
