Kilkerley Emmets get camera ready

-

ON Friday night I headed for the Kilkerley Community Hall for the launch of the Oskars night. The event is a fundraiser for the Kilkerley Emmets football team and will involve 65 locals taking part in excerpts from seven well known movies in a night to take place in the Carrickdale Hotel on Easter Saturday night.

A huge crowd had turned out specially to see exactly what parts the different, would be actors will get and from there on until the big night, they will be coached every week by none other than David O’Sullivan better known to most as Decco Bishop from Fair City.

I decided to have a look to see who was there and the first group I met up with included Terry and Alice Lennon from Hackballscross, Kit Cunningham from Carrickedmond and Andy McGuill from Kilkerley. They told me that Alice and Kit were up to find out about their parts and told me it was definitely going to be ‘a bit of craic’.

Next, I headed over towards Siobhan Kirk from Kilkerley who told me she was looking forward to seeing her husband Ciaran in action and she was sure it was going to be funny!

After this I headed up towards the bar for a word with Eamonn ‘Dutch’ Doherty and Donal Clarke both from Kilkerley who were also awaiting word and said it was going to be ‘no bother’ and that Dutch had done something similar about 40 years ago.

Making my way to another table I then got talking to Anthony and Aine Hoey, Bernie and Paul Mulholland all from Maghereagh who told me An- Andy McGuill, Richie Mulholland and Eamon Doherty at the Oskars launch night in Kilkerley Community Centre.

thony and Bernie couldn’t wait to find out who they were going to be so they could star in the Carrickdale on Easter Saturday night.

Next, I had the pleasure of talking to Susan Wallace from Plaster who told me she was terrified about who she was going to have to portray and told me that a certain Seamus Bellew now had an X on his back! She was there with Caoimhe Wallace from Plaster, Catherine Lynch from Rathmore whom had agreed to participate under duress. They were then joined by Gwen Cumiskey who told me her son Danan was busy taking photos on the night and the event will be great for community and specially the club.

After this I got a word with Jim and Carol Wallace from The Crescent who said that Jim would be treading the boards and was beside himself with

excitement.

Making my way through the crowds I then got a word with Richard and Anne Duffy from Glenwood who were there to cheer on their daughter Annmarie Duffy from Carlinn Hall and she was with boyfriend Rory Mulholland from Kilkerley and his brother Ben who was having a great laugh at the whole occasion.

Not too far away I got talking to cousins Kerri and Lucy Litchfield from Kilkerley who weren’t taking part and were in the company of Paull and Regina Litchfield and Colm and Connie Marry from Knockbridge. The lads were up to find out their parts and assured me it was going to be a fantastic night for sure.

Just arrived in the door were Margaret and Frank Watters from Thomastown who told me that Frank was there to find out

his part, but secretly wanted a Jack Nicholson role. He went on to say that he hoped his shy and retiring nature might be transformed by the part and it might get him out of himself and better able to mix with people. I had obviously slipped into a parallel universe at this point so I backed away slowly, not losing his unassuming gaze as I went!

Finally, before I departed, I caught up with Gillian Harte and Maureen Holland from Kilkerley who was awaiting husband Niall’s return from California and were fresh from the confirmation party in Harmon’s in Headford where Paul had arrived to find out his pole along with Peter Kellegher, Majella and Ken Babington from Kilkerley who were there to make the best of the occasion and find out how the lads were going to get on.
