ACCUSED REMANDEDIN CUSTODY

-

A 30-year-old woman accused of involvement in two separate incidents in which two women were allegedly injured, has been remanded in custody for another two weeks.

Samantha Campbell, Park One, Muirhevnamór, is charged with an aggravated burglary and assault causing harm, at Waterville Crescent, on 5 December last.

She is also accused of assault causing harm at Drive Two, Muirhevnamór on the same date. Bail has been refused in the high court. In court last Wednesday, state solicitor for Co. Louth Fergus Mullen said he received the file the day before and it has gone to the DPP.

There is no likelihood of the matter being dealt with in the district court, and there is a recommendation of a more serious charge, Mr. Mullen continued.

One of the alleged victims sustained the loss of an eye.

Solicitor Peter Lavery, who is representing Samantha Campbell, said his client has been in custody for two months.

He asked that the charges be struck out, remarking the state knew from day one this was a serious matter.

Judge Coughlan refused the application and remanded the accused in custody to 6 March next.

Mr Lavery formally objected to the case being heard in the district court.

Sgt Fintan McGroder asked that the matter go to 27 February next when the defendant, Hasan Macow, 35 Carroll Village, is due to face a second summons relating to the case.

The offence in question is alleged to have occurred on 12 December, 2016.
