Erin McGreehan picked to run in Dundalk Carlingford as Peter Savage steps down

-

Erin McGreehan has big shoes to fill as the Fianna Fail candidate for Dundalk Carlingford bidding to retain the seat held by Cllr Peter Savage for a record breaking 45 years.

The veteran councillor has, she says, ‘ been a great help. He is coming on board as my mentor and has given me his full support, and it’s fantastic to be able to learn from the master.’

This is a first time outing for Erin who studied politics and law at NUI Galway and holds a Masters in Economics from UCD.

A member of a well known Cooley family, she is a life long member of Fianna Fail and has worked in the Oireachtas.

She lives in Cooley with her partner Donal McMorland and their four children, Conor, Eoin, Donal Og and Micheal. They couple have their own small engineering business.

Her running mates in Dundalk Carlingford are Cllr Conor Keelan and Sean Kelly who failed to take a seat last time out.

The implications of Brexit are a major concern for those living close to the borer and she wants people to know that in the event of a no-deal Brexit the driving licence of a UK licence holder living here in Ireland will not be recognised and the driver will not be able to continue to drive here in Ireland on that licence.

‘ This is yet another situation imposed upon our citizens because of the United Kingdom’s decision to leave the European Union,’ she says.

The National Drivers Licence Service (NDLS) states individuals should swap their UK driving licence for an Irish driving licence before the 29 March deadline. Before this date a UK licence holder resident here in Ireland has an entitlement to make such an exchange.

However, if that Licence Holder fails to exchange their licence before March 29th it is suggested that they will have to start over as a new application and retake the driving test.
