Seasiders sink Ardee

-

IN an eventful and entertaining opening to the Dundalk and District Under-19 league Rock Celtic beat Ardee Celtic 3-0 at Sandy Lane on Wednesday night.

Saint Dominic’s have been accepted into the league following a late application. Their participation brings the number of teams competing up to eight.

The Sandy Lane pitch was in remarkable condition considering the constant heavy rain for the league’s curtain raiser which saw the bigger and stronger Seasiders emerge comfortable winners in the end after both sides were reduced to ten men, losing a player apiece as a result of receiving two yellow cards in the second half.

Killian Duffy put Rock ahead seven minutes from the break when he capitalised on a mistake by an Ardee player.

Ardee came stronger into the game in the first 20 minutes of the second half and should have equalised but Michael Swatoski sent a relatively easy header from inside the home six yard box over the crossbar.

They suffered a bad setback when the referee issued the first of the game’s red cards, about the hour mark.

Rock took the opportunity to regain a hold of the exchanges and Owen O’Hanlon practically wrapped up the win and the points when he made it two nil with less than 20 minutes left.

The numbers were equalled up when the Seasiders also had a player dismissed, but O’Hanlon with his second and his side’s third goal ten minutes from time, put the result beyond doubt.
