Niamh makes her international debut

-

NIAMH Brady made her international debut on Saturday when she traveled to Glasgow with the Irish Schools indoor combined event team having earned her place at the recent National Schools Championship.

The standard at this level was as expected very high but Niamh wasn’t phased and performed brilliantly. She managed two PB’s which is a good achievement any day but to do it in the pressure environment of a team competition shows great character.

Niamh achieved the two personal bests in both the high jump and shot putt with a leap of 1.47M and a putt of 7.87 with a 3K shot.

England finished up the clear winners but the other two podium places were close fought affairs and when the results were totalled the Irish teams points accumulation had them in the bronze medal position which was greeted with hugh cheers from the travelling band of supporters.

In local matters the Louth junior and masters championship took place in the farm lands of St Peters stalwarts Andrew and Brendan Rogers in Togher.

The event was hosted by St Peters AC and ran very smoothly .The ground was in good order considering the recent weather.

The St Peters Club had just two athletes in action, the host himself who add an advantage as he runs around the fields in use every day albeit usually chasing cattle had a very strong run to finish 2nd in the over sixty category. In the ladies race Grace Lynch made her debut in the St Peters singlet and had a very strong run to claim a bronze medal in over thirty five category.

Grace who has only recently taken up running after a distinguished football career showed her pedigree and hopefully it will be the first of many medals in the blue and black singlet.
