St Dominics honour stars of 2019

-

ON Friday night I headed for the Lilywhite Lounge where the St. Dominics FC were hosting their annual presentation night and a big crowd had turned out specially for the occasion to honour their teams in u10s, 11s, 13s, 15s, 16s and 17s in Player of the Year, Most Improved Player and Club Person of Year.

I was only in the door when I met up with chief organiser Tommy Larkin from Cedarwood Park, John Derry, Eddie Burton, Brendan Scollon, Tony McBride and Brian Brady who are part of the integral set up that help to coach and manage all the teams.

I then headed over to one of the tables where I got talking to Ryan Lennon from Avenue Road, Kyle Schiavone from Blackrock both u15s and Khalid Osemi from Ardee Terrace u16s who were looking forward to the night and were hopeful of some silverwear as well.

After this I headed over for a chat with Michael Smyth from St. Nicholas Avenue who was with son Brandon who also kicks for the u15s and only joined the team half way through the season after stints with Shamrocks, Rangers and Redeemer and is really enjoying his football now.

He was joined by Pauric McGee from Kilkerley who plays with the u16s and was being supported by dad Paddy and with bro Oisin who plays with u10s and they were both ‘ lovin it’.

Meanwhile up near the bar I got taking to dads Gary Mulholland from Oaklawns and Martin Holland from Kilkerley who were there to support sons Jacob u13s and Mark u10s who are really enjoying their football, but hoping the night was running on time because there was a certain Late Late Show to be home in time for!

Also there was Kyle Smyth from St. Alphonsus Villas who was there to collect his League Cup medal and was with his hugely proud grandfather Michael Killeen from Point Road who wanted to wish him all the best on the night.

After this I got a word with Christy Smith from Fatima who was with son Nathan Smith a hero for the u15s and who is totally enjoying his football there.

Making my way over to another table I then caught up with the Hackballscross possee who included Ian, Deirdre and Emily McEntegart who were with Eugene Fee who were there to cheer on the u10s stars Aaron and Ruairí who just loved playing with St. Dominics and were ready for another year of it.

Next I had the pleasure of meeting up with Aisling Murphy from Littlemills who had her u10s star Eoghan with her and was looking forward to an epic night.

Making my way over to another table I caught up with Jimmy Finnegan from Hackballscross who was with wife Michelle, daughter Aoibhín and Erin who were there to cheer on brother Shéa who is another star of the u10s. They were having a great laugh with Eoin Meegan from Inniskeen whose son Tómas is a star from the u10s ranks.

Next I caught up with David Ward from Muirhevnamor with another star of the u10s squad, son Adam who was up for making the best of the night with all his mates.

One man who was in great form when I met him was Dion Burton from Claddagh Park who kicks with u15s who was with dad Eddie and they were chatting to Deborah and Amy Ward from Garrybawn who wanted a big shout out for another of the u10 legends Adam Ward who was off having a mad night with all his buddies.

Not too long later I got talking to Eamonn Duffy from O’Hanlon Park the manager of u16s squad a who was with son Dane who also kicks for the u16s and he was with his number one fan Beth Deery from Kilkerley.

I then got a quick word with Nathan Smith form Kilcurry who told me he was with the u15s and was accompanied by his dad Christy and was looking forward to a mad one.

Next I then got talking to Patrick Matthews from Medebawn who was there to cheer on son Cillian and the u13s squad who are really starting to come together now.

Making my way over to another table I met up with Shane Connolly and Gerard Hoey both from Belfry Avenue whose sons

Cormac and Ronan are u13s stars and were all off together having a brilliant night.

Finally, before I departed and presentations got under way, I met up with Deirdre McEntegart who was chatting to Lynne Rice from Kilkerley and Adrian Conlon from Kilkerley who have Aaron, James and Adrian Jnr all playing with u10s, but Adrian also has Robbie turning out for u13s and Darragh with u15s, but he couldn’t make it on the night, the dance night in Ridleys had already called him to the dancefloor!
