Voters braced for snap election

LOUTH voters are bracing for a snap general election, expected to be called in the coming days, as the list of declared candidates emerged across the county.

With a date in the first two weeks in February, either 7th or 14th, rumoured to be named for GE2020, Louth’s candidates are ramping up their respective campaigns.

All the main political parties have confirmed their candidates in north and south Louth.

Currently there is just one independent candidate running in the Dundalk area.

But with an election not yet officially called, it is still early days , and other names are likely to be added to the ballot in the coming weeks.

Taoiseach Leo Varadkar confirmed he has selected a date for the election, but would not be announcing it as yet. The Dail is still expected to reconvene tomorrow ( Wednesday) following the Christmas break.
