Council to re-apply for Bridge St funding
LOUTH County Council is to reapply for funding to carry out improvement works at Bridge Street. There was widespread disappointment when their application for funding was unsuccessful last year as it had been hoped that the money would have allowed the Council to carry out work to tie-in with the multi-million Euro regeneration of Clanbrassil St/St Nicholas Quarter. It had been envisaged that the funding would allow work to be extended as far as the Big Bridge.
After the initial rejection, the Council had appealed the decision under the review process but once again was unsuccessful.
Niw Director of Service Mr Frank Pentony has told councillors at last week’s meeting of the Dundalk Municipal
District that the local authority was working on their applications for funding under the 2020 Urban Regeneration and Development Fund.
They would be submitting the two applications which had been unsuccessful last year - Bridge Street in Dundalk and the Port Access Route in Drogheda. The applications have to be submitted by the end of March.
Cllr Maeve Yore wanted to know if they would be submitting a brand new application and what was different from the previous application.
Mr Pentony assured the meeting that the Council would be putting in a more ‘robust’ application which would be based on the feedback which they got from the Department following last year’s unsuccessful application.
