Concern over tree felling for new track

-

COUNCILLORS have called for more communication after trees were felled as part of the advance work for the new running track at the District Park in Muirhevnamor.

Acting chairperson Cllr Marianne Butler told last week’s meeting of the Dundalk Municipal District that there had been a lot of alarm about the amont of trees which had been felled. While she knew that it was done due to the running track, she asked that the Council issue public notices about such work so that people would know what is happening. ‘A huge amount of people got phone calls about the trees being removed.’

Cllr Liam Reilly asked that they be informed as to what the plan is for replacing the felled trees at the site of the new running track.

Director of Service Mr Frank Pentony said that the normal procedure for tree planting is that four trees are planted for every one felled. He would bring it up with staff from the parks department. He agreed that there had been an issue regarding communications.
