Last chance for defendant(26)

-

A woman who admitted not paying a taxi fare and other charges has been warned she is on her last chance.

Shauna Duff, 1 New Houses, Drumconrath, Co. Meath, appeared before the court on remand. She was granted bail to 15 April for a probation report.

Evidence was given that on 30 March, 2018, a taxi man reported that he had not been paid a return fare of €80 for a journey between Dundalk Drumconrath.

On the following 30 May, while a disqualified driver, Duff was behind the wheel of a black Ford Focus at Readypenny. Tax, insurance and NCT were all out on the vehicle.

She had been disqualified at Carricmacross Court on 18 April, 2018.

The court also heard that on 8 August, 2019, Duff was observed on CCTV taking a number of items from Penney’s in the Marshes shopping centre. They were concealed under her top. She made admissions at the scene.

There are nine previous convictions. Barrister Michael Miley said his client lives with her mother and brothers. Most of these offences occurred as a result of her drugs problem. She is clean at the moment.

He continued that the defendant is unemployed. She left school in fifth year.

Mr Miley asked for leniency, pointing out Duff had been in custody for one week on remand.

Making an order as outlined, Judge McKiernan warned the defendant she was on her last chance.
