Took groceries from store

Catriona Joyce (24), 14 Woodland Park, who pleaded guilty to a shoplifting charge, has been remanded on continuing bail to 15 April for a probation report.

Sgt McGroder said that on 21 January last she took €163-worth of groceries from Dunnes Stores in The Marshes shopping centre. The defendant was identified from CCTV footage and subsequently arrested. The goods were recovered.

There are no previous convictions. Solicitor Eleanor Kelly said her client, a mother of two children, is on social welfare. She was struggling that week.

Joyce was mortified and afraid to be in court. Ms Kelly asked that no conviction be recorded.

Judge McKiernan put the case back for a report. Legal aid was granted.
